Faster Horses is me, Kate Ellen Dean, and my close friend Steve Sopchak, making songs in New York City and Syracuse, New York.
Steve and I met in high school in the mid 2000’s at a show I played in his parents’ basement, which he had converted into a DIY venue. Mutual admiration kept us in touch, and we began formally collaborating in 2014 after I sent Steve a demo I made in my apartment. That fall, we drove up to Lake Champlain, lit a fire in the woodstove, opened a couple of beers, and got to work on what would later become ‘Letting Go.’
We wrote our album about a muddy and difficult break-up I was going through at the time. The songs documented my healing process and also contributed to it. Over time, each song has been carefully reconsidered and revised as I moved away from, pined, and mulled over new, and old love; the songs have evolved with me. The full realization of this release comes over seven years after our first writing session, and I now feel ready to share my experience.
‘Letting Go’ is part country, part alternative, part pop music. It is deeply influenced by traditional American songwriting and country, and burnished with harmony that reminds me of the folk songs I grew up singing. Our hope with this album is to express both the sadness, and generativeness of heartbreak, and, that you’ll listen.
